Day 29 Rest Day in Pierre, SD

We're staying in the dorms at the Pierre Indian Learning Center, a boarding school for Indian students from North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska.

I'm glad we were camping last night, because a HUGE thunderstorm rolled through town, and our tents would've been soaked.  Today, though, has been dry and sunny.

The school is several miles from the center of town, so this morning, several other riders and I got a public transport bus to take us downtown to a breakfast spot, The Branding Iron.  If you're ever in Pierre, go there.  The cinnamon rolls were excellent!

After breakfast, we walked up Pierre Street toward the capitol.

Then, we walked all around the state capitol building and the grounds.  This part of Pierre does not look like Yakima.  It's a really nice area.

Harry from PA is standing with the soldiers.

Ducks are being followed by Barb.

Around town, there are statues of former governors.  Pam is shaking hands with one of them.

Mike Rounds, former governor, is surrounded by Cycle America riders:  Tony, Harry, Ken, Pam, Jose, Barb, and George.

FYI:  Pierre is the second smallest capital city in the U.S.  Only Montpelier, VT is smaller.

Next week we spend two more nights in South Dakota, then we're on to Minnesota.  The mileage is similar to past weeks, but the elevation gains are much, much less.  Unless we have severe winds, it's going to be a much more restful week, though maybe not as scenic?
