Day 55 Watertown, NY to Star Lake, NY

After a delicious breakfast (including a delicious blueberry French toast bake), we headed out into the gray muggy morning.  We rode through neighborhood streets for awhile, and then we were out in the country again.

We rode by the Black River.

This is a view looking back at the countryside as we headed up and up.

This little cafe in the tiny village of Natural Bridge wants to welcome a cyclist.  It looks like they welcomed much more than that!

Everyone should have their own town.

Last week, one of my coworkers, Karlie, noticed on Facebook that I was in Niagara Falls.  She said she was going to New York the following week to visit her husband's family.  It turns out that she was very close to Watertown, so she and her family met me at our lunch stop in Harrisville.  It was great to see her!  She's holding her son Trey.

We left lunch, and the road went gradually uphill, and the landscape became more forested.

These horses wanted to check us out while we were checking them out.

We officially have entered the Adirondacks.  It's beautiful, humid, very hilly, and some of the hills are very steep.

I love this old abandoned church and house in the tiny town of Fine.

We rode by the Oswegatchie River many times on our way up to Star Lake.

This is Star Lake, our stop for the night.

We're staying at Clifton Fine Central School, which is, I'm guessing, a K-12 school.  Since there's a very good chance that there will be thunderstorms tonight, I'm choosing to stay inside.  I started out in the gym, but moved into the hall, which is a bit cooler than the gym.

Tomorrow, we go to Lake Placid, home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics.
