We left Gillette (it was already 75º at 7:00 am) and rode through some open rangeland. Not much to see, other than cows and fields.
Soon, we got on Highway 51, which parallels I-90. It was not too scenic. There were trains full of coal, freeway noise, and industrial areas. I didn't take any pictures.
We rode through the little town of Moorcroft, which had just had a parade or celebration of some sort. People were lining the streets, walking here and there, and fire trucks were blaring their horns. We made it through the crowds and headed north on Highway 14.
We rode past the Keyhole Reservoir, which I thought would be nicer than it was. It was pretty dry, but at least I saw another antelope.
As we got further north and closer to Devil's Tower, the landscape got a little more interesting. It also got a lot hotter.
One area, near Carlisle, looked like it had experienced a fire in the recent past.
We rode up and down hills in 90+º heat, until finally -- Devil's Tower!
We are staying at the KOA right beneath Devil's Tower. It's a beautiful setting!
The song for today's ride was the five notes from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." Imagine those notes over and over again for nearly 70 miles. Cycle America brain damage is happening. . .
But look! This is the view from where I'm sitting and blogging. Priceless!
